Privacy notice
ChargeStop processes personal information in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). This notice explains what we collect and why.
What we collect
- Account details you provide (email, optional name, password hash).
- Saved vehicles, favourites, trips, comments, and charger check-ins.
- Approximate technical logs (IP, path, timing) for security and reliability.
- Optional precise location only when you tap Locate — processed on-device / for map centering.
Why
- Provide the map, accounts, and route planner you ask for.
- Moderate community content and keep the service secure.
- Improve performance using aggregated, non-marketing metrics.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Infrastructure runs on Cloudflare. Password reset email delivery is stubbed until an email provider is connected.
Approximate location (map start)
When you open the map, ChargeStop may use Cloudflare’s edge geolocation fields (city / country / approximate coordinates derived from the request path — not a GPS fix) only to centre the map for visitors in South Africa. If you are outside South Africa or geolocation is unavailable, we open on the Cape Town metro. We do not store your IP address for this purpose. Your last map view is kept in your browser’s local storage only; device GPS is used only when you tap Near me.
Driver check-ins
Check-ins (worked / broken) are timestamped driver reports, not live charger availability. They are stored with your account when you are signed in. ChargeStop does not claim that a past check-in means a plug works right now.
Analytics
If a Google Analytics measurement ID is configured, a notice asks whether to allow analytics cookies. Choosing No thanks, or leaving the ID unset, means the analytics script is not loaded. The map does not wait on that choice.
Your rights
You may request access, correction, or deletion of your account data. Contact the product owner via Sonah Group. You may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa).
